About Alderman Gregory J. Carter

Gregory J. Carter, is a native St. Louisan; elected to the St. Louis Board of Aldermen in April, 1993 and has been Alderman of the 27th ward for thirteen years making this his fourth term in office. He is the son of Willie and the late Senator Paula J. Carter.

Mr. Carter grew up and lives in the 27th Ward where he is now Alderman. Mr. Carter furthered his education at Southeast Missouri State and Columbia College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Marketing.

Mr. Carter is an employee of the United Parcel Service and has been for twenty-two years and a member of H. McGhee Lodge #3, Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masons of Missouri among other affiliations.

His position as Alderman has made him an advocate and friend among his constituents, his community and neighborhood. He is Chairman of the Health & Human Services Committee, former Chair of the African American Aldermanic Caucus and presently the Treasurer, Executive Director of the Paula J. Carter Foundation, is on the Board of the Human Development Corporation, member of the 100 Black Men and member of the National League of Cities.

Alderman Carter has received numerous awards. The Trailblazer Award from the 100 Black Men, Chairman Awards from the Human Development Corporation, Lifetime Achievement Award from the St. Louis Teachers and School Related Personnel Union, Local 420, the Walbridge Community Education Lifetime Achievement Award, the Achievement Award of the Missouri Waste Coalition, Community Services Award, from the Legal Services of Eastern Missouri and received several awards from different block units and churches in his community.
